Abstract: In this paper we examine a new procedure for generating starting solutions for the continuous p-median problem in the plane. Preliminary results indicate that local optima of much better quality are obtained using this method. The next step in our study will be to determine if these starting solutions enhance the performance of existing heuristics that are based on variable neighborhood search. [Copyright &y& Elsevier] |
