The article discusses the changing demographics, medical complications and treatment options for eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa was introduced as a disease to the American households with the death of Karen Carpenter and bulimia nervosa was brought to a world audience upon Princess Diana's admission of suffering from the disease. Females suffering from eating disorders have concerns about weight and fear of weight gain while males start their eating disordered pattern with improvement in athletic appearance in mind. It cites new twists on eating disorders such as the pregorexia for pregnant women, drunkorexia for college students and orthorexia which places a strict focus on healthy eating. |
