الوصف: A close relationship of temperature and sunshine with percent oil, percent protein and oil-iodine number in Mandarin (Ottawa) soybeans was demonstrated. Least squares equations connecting each of the three quality measures to appropriate weather variables were calculated. Substitutions of 1963 weather data in equations based on 1949–1962 observations resulted in calculated values for oil, protein and iodine number that closely approached observed values, that is, calculated oil percentage 17.69, observed 19.16; calculated protein percentage 42.99, observed 41.81; calculated iodine number 138, observed 143. The general applicability of these equations is not yet known but in their present form they seem to have some prospective use for identifying relationships between soybean quality and environment.
