| الوصف: | The sagittal diameters of the cervical bony and dural canals in 40 patients were measured by prone and supine myelography. From these, seven were selected who had the tightest dural canals. All these were found to have narrow bony canals as well. The clinical features in five out of these seven patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy were compared with a similar group of patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy whose bony canal was also narrow, though the diameter of the dural canal was within normal limits. There was a tendency for males with a tight dural canal to present at an earlier age and to have a slightly more severe clinical picture. The small numbers involved made it difficult to come to a firm conclusion. A further 14 patients with syringomyelia were similarly studied. In males the bony and dural canals were markedly wider than in the 40 “control” patients, while in females the measurements were within normal limits. The significance of this sex difference is discussed. |
