| الوصف: | The present work aims to make the commented translation of the first volume of the work Melmoth the Wanderer, written in 1820 by the Irish Charles Robert Maturin. The book tells the story of John Melmoth, a student who discovers the existence of an ancestor who sold his soul to the devil. The first chapter here deals with the historical context in which Gothic Literature emerges and in which Melmoth the Wanderer is inserted. A brief summary of the author's life is also presented, as well as an expanded summary of the book, its narrative structure, and also the author's influences, as well as its reception among the public. The third chapter is about the translation process and the translation method itself, bringing the concepts of foreignness and domestication discussed mainly by Antoine Berman and Lawrence Venuti. Finally, the translation of selected excerpts is presented to demonstrate their challenges and the process of translation choices. ; Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES ; O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de realizar a tradução comentada do primeiro volume da obra Melmoth the Wanderer, escrita em 1820 pelo irlandês Charles Robert Maturin. A obra conta a história de John Melmoth, estudante que descobre a existência de um ancestral que vendeu a alma ao diabo. O primeiro capítulo aqui presente trata do contexto histórico em que a Literatura Gótica desponta e em que Melmoth the Wanderer está inserida. Da mesma forma, apresentamos um breve resumo da vida do autor, um resumo expandido da obra, sua estrutura narrativa, e também as influências do autor, assim como a sua recepção entre o público. No capítulo seguinte, traremos especificamente o fazer tradutório e o método tradutório propriamente dito, trazendo os conceitos de estrangeirização e domesticação discutidos principalmente por Antoine Berman e Lawrence Venuti. Por fim, apresentaremos a tradução de trechos selecionados a fim de demonstrarmos seus desafios e o processo das escolhas tradutórias. |
