مستخلص: Public discourse often portrays Muslim and American identities as being in conflict with one another. However, few studies analyze how American Muslims, themselves, view their own social integration, specifically, their self-identification. An individual's self-identification is an important conceptual component of social integration, especially among large immigrant populations. Using a nationally representative sample of American Muslims conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2011, this study examines the association between religiosity markers and primary self-identification among American Muslims as well as determines the likelihood of one identification category over another. A series of binary logistic regression models reveals that religious importance is a significant marker of selfidentification. Contrary to popular belief, American Muslims are more likely to report a primary self-identification of both American and Muslim identities equally, as opposed to a solely Muslim identity.
