مستخلص: This article presents a study examining the long-term outcome of renal function in patients with primary aldosteronism, after these patients have been medically treated. The study was conducted among a sample of aldosteronism patients who were routinely examined over a period of roughly 6 1/2 years after an adrenalectomy or spironolactone treatment. A group of patients with primary aldosteronism were compared against another group with essential hypertension, examining the duration and severity of the hypertension. The study found that aldosteronism was marked by elevated levels of albuminuria, which resulted in a dynamic renal defect in most of these patients.
