مستخلص: |
This study investigated perceived susceptibility to diabetes and attitudes towards preventing diabetes among a total of 707 college students. Thirty-two percent of the respondents perceived themselves at risk for developing diabetes whereas 31% didn't. Only 75% believed lifestyles were associated with diabetes onset. Those who were overweight/obese, who were told as pre-diabetic, or who did not know their blood glucose levels were more likely to perceive an increased risk for developing diabetes than their counterparts when controlling for age, race/ ethnicity, and having a direct family member with diabetes. Increased efforts should be made to enhance college students' knowledge and understanding of diabetes and its prevention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
