A simple reflection method proposed by Teng and Man for the measurement of the Pockels coefficient of a poled polymer film has been expanded to measure the Kerr coefficient. Basic equations for estimating the Pockels and Kerr coefficients have been presented. The method has been demonstrated by measuring values not only of the Pockels coefficient ( r 333 ) but also the Kerr coefficient ( p 3333 ) of a 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitro-stilbene (DANS)-side chain poled polymer. |
