The social policies implemented since 2003 have encouraged, as never before, the creation and the empowerment of several grassroots organizations in relation to social economy and community development. The academic research has emphasized the similarities that these organizational experiences share with those of the recent past (social movement and clientelism) without sufficient research into the distinctive characteristics of the present period. In order to better understand grassroots organizational processes, we conducted a case study on the process of urbanization of a big informal settlement ("villa") in the west of the province of Buenos Aires. From a relational perspective, we focus on micro processes inside the neighborhood, the formation of networks and organizations and the connections between these organizations and politics. Las políticas sociales implementadas a partir de 2003 han impulsado la creación así como la potenciación de numerosas organizaciones comunitarias vinculadas a la economía social y al desarrollo comunitario. La mirada académica sobre las mismas enfatiza sus similitudes con experiencias organizativas características del pasado reciente (clientelismo y movimientos sociales) sin ahondar suficientemente en las especificidades de las organizaciones del presente período. A fin de avanzar en la compresión de los procesos de organización se ha realizado un estudio de caso del proceso de urbanización de un gran asentamiento irregular (villa) en el oeste del Gran Buenos Aires. Desde una perspectiva relacional se presta atención a los procesos micro al interior del barrio, la constitución de redes y organizaciones así como a los vínculos que se establecen con la política.
