From information provided by documents relative to the sea tithes and wool exports, we try to define the manner in which the commercial channels between Castile and foreign kingdoms were set up during the sixteenth century in the ports of the Cuatro Villas de la Costa de la Mar. These trade flows were shaped by several different factors: the influence of the Velasco family, who was the beneficiary of the rights to the incomes provided by the sea tithes for nearly a century, as well as the peculiarities of the kind of transport available between the ports of the Cantabrian coastline and Burgos. In this work, we also detail how exports and imports were distributed between the ports of Santander and Laredo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

A partir de las informaciones proporcionadas por la documentación correspondiente a los diezmos de la mar, y a las exportaciones de lanas, tratamos de definir de qué manera se organizaron los circuitos comerciales entre Castilla y los reinos extranjeros, en los puertos de las Cuatro Villas de la Costa de la Mar, en el siglo xvi. Estos flujos se articularon a partir de diferentes factores: la influencia de la familia Velasco, beneficiaria de la renta de los diezmos de la mar durante casi un siglo, así como la diferencia del tipo de transporte entre los puertos de la cornisa cantábrica y Burgos. En este trabajo, explicamos cómo se repartían las exportaciones e importaciones en los puertos de Santander y Laredo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
