When carrying out biographical research of Bratislava teacher Eduard Krajňák, the author found a letter in the National Library of Norway in Oslo which was addressed to Bjørnstjern Bjørnson, the defender and protector of Slovaks in 1907. In the 1950s, the letter was overlooked by Czech Germanist and Scandinavist Josef B. Michl during his research of the correspondence of Czechs and Slovaks with Bjørnstjern Bjørnson. In the late 19th century and early 20th century the Norwegian writer bravely defended the rights of nations which had suffered under the yoke of oppressors without achieving their own statehood. Shortly after his death in 1910, Bjørnson's relationship to Slovakia and Slovaks was chronicled in a book by young Norwegian literary historian and Slavist, Trygve Tonstad (1899 - 1933).
