Emily Dickinson searched for the acceptance and the approval of the public of her time, especially through the authority of male personalities to whom she addressed by the use of letters. Considering historical and social elements, the present paper analyses some strategies the poet used so as to communicate with the world and the readers, as well investigates the reasons for the incommunicability of her poetry, through a brief historical analyses of the New England of that time. ; Emily Dickinson buscou a aceitação e aprovação do público de seu tempo, especialmente por intermédio da autoridade de personalidades masculinas a quem ela se dirigiu por meio de cartas. A partir de elementos históricos e sociais, o presente artigo analisa algumas estratégias que a poeta utilizou para se comunicar com o mundo e os leitores, bem como procura investigar as razões para a incomunicabilidade de sua poesia, a partir de uma breve análise histórica da Nova Inglaterra daquele tempo. |
