مستخلص: Children are a significant human capital of a country. As such, the protection of children from neglect, abuse, violence, and exploitation is an important aspect and should be given priority. Malaysia has been rocked by cases of abuse that have occurred in a family institution and up to the first quarter of 2021, a total of 2,040 cases of abuse have been recorded. There are four types of child abuse i.e., physical abuse, neglect, sexual and emotional. In contrast to the abuse that can be seen in the eyes of the naked eye, this emotional abuse is seen as if it is not taken seriously by every society. The objective of this paper is to identify the extent to which emotional abuse of children occurs. The second objective was to analyze the statistics of cases that touched on the issue of emotional abuse of children. This paper uses a qualitative method by highlighting the literature from Malaysia and abroad guided by primary and secondary sources that discuss the issue of child abuse. The findings from this writing show that there is an increase in cases of abuse in general as well as specific to emotional abuse of children besides there is a need for law enforcement to be tightened so that the problem of child emotional abuse can be contained. In conclusion, the results of this paper will provide exposure to how the statistics of child abuse cases serve as an indicator so that the government, enforcement, and society can curb the problem of child abuse from continuing to increase especially in the context of emotional abuse during the COVID-19’s pandemic. Further, law enforcement needs to be tightened effectively and holistically. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
