مستخلص: The article presents a study on the functional recruitment induced by positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The study was performed among 16 patients with acute lung injury (ALI) and ARDS, eight non ALI of ARDS control patients under invasive mechanical ventilation and eight healthy volunteers. It was found out that increase in diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) resulted to high PEEP.
