Apparently the passion for heraldry has penetrated clear to Kansas, where the 311th United States Cavalry, stationed at Fort Riley, has adopted a regimental coat-of-arms bewilderingly mediaeval in spirit, though contemporaneous enough in content. This regimental cost of arms was designed by Lieutenant-Colonel Ben H. Dorcy. For Old-World flourish this is rivaled only by that District of Columbia military organization which has recruited itself to full strength by styling itself "The President's Own." |
