    الوصف: One of the main problems in wireless heterogeneous networks is interference between macro- and femto-cells. Using Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) to create multiple frequency orthogonal sub-channels, this interference can be completely avoided if each sub-channel is exclusively used by either macro- or a femto-cell. However, such an orthogonal allocation may be inefficient. We consider two alternative strategies for interference management, opportunistic resource allocation (ORA) and interference alignment (IA). Both of them utilize the fading fluctuations across frequency channels in different ways. ORA allows the users to interfere, but selecting the channels where the interference is faded, while the desired signal has a good channel. IA uses precoding to create interference-free transmissions; however, such a precoding changes the diversity picture of the communication resources. In this letter we investigate the interactions and the trade-offs between these two strategies.

    الوصف: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) established new requirements for the next generation of wireless communications. To meet those requirements, the concept of femtocells emerged as a solution, aiming at increasing capacity and offloading the macrocell network. In a co-channel deployment between macrocells and femtocells, the interference is a serious problem and that needs to be addressed. Since the femtocells are deployed by the end-user, the operator does not have a pre-planned solution to avoid interference, thus a self-organizing solution between femtocells located in the same area is required to manage the interference. In this paper we propose a flexible spectrum usage algorithm which runs at the femtocells, while the macrocells use a fixed reuse scheme in order to manage the interference in the network. In this study we verify that by assigning a fixed reuse scheme 1/3 for the macrocells, the performance achieved by the users is higher, when comparing the same scenario with reuse 1. We also propose a flexible spectrum usage algorithm for the femto cell, which is able to achieve higher user throughput in the femto layer and minimize the interference in the macro layer, when compared to a non-channel aware algorithm, which allocates the PRBs randomly.

    الوصف: Based on outdoor measurements we study the feasibility of applying the time reversal techniques (TR) in multiple element antenna (MEA) wireless communication systems. It is demonstrated that the use of TR in wireless communication has a promising potential in mitigating the effect of channel dispersion and especially in reducing the cochannel interference where a margin of 18 dB interference reduction has been obtained.
