مستخلص: This study sought to identify determinants of turnover intentions among nurses in psychiatric hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The study sample consisted of (434) nurses working in 9 hospitals randomly selected from various geographic regions. Results show that (37%) of nurses have the intention to leave the institution, and (15%) have intentions to leave the profession in general. Differences in intentions to leave the institution were found according to nationality, education, age, and experience, while no differences were identified according to gender and job tasks. Furthermore, no differences in intentions to leave the profession were identified according to any of the demographic and professional characteristics. Determinants of intentions to leave the institution consist of the following: pay equity, organizational commitment, nationality, job tasks, and salary. Determinants to leave the profession consist of the following: pay equity, relationships at work, and social status. Differences were identified in determinants of intentions to leave the institution and profession for Saudis and non Saudis, indicating that part of the turnover problem is linked to the high dependency on expatriate workers in this field.
