| مستخلص: | Modern tennis began in 1873. It was based on court tennis. In 1877 the first championships were held in Wimbledon, near London. In 1881 the first official U.S. men's championships were held at Newport, Rhode Island. Six years later, the first women's championships took place, in Philadelphia. The four most important("grand slam") tournaments are the Australian Open, the French Open, the All-England (Wimbledon) Championships, and the U.S. Open. |
