الوصف: Although the negative psychological and physiological consequences of dieting have been well documented, dieting is still considered to be a normal feminine, life-long preoccupation. Once women begin to diet it can be extremely difficult for them to interrupt the pattern of food restriction followed by bingeing. If women are to return to what is physiologically normal eating, that is, eating in response to internal hunger and satiety signals, stopping dieting is crucial. This paper draws on a feminist qualitative research project on compulsive eating to ask six women "What would it take for you to stop dieting?" Their response is presented her along with illustrative comments. The paper also briefly addresses the therapeutic aspects of this research.
