Centrifugal pump design factors such as the type of impeller have been shown to have a significant effect on the seal environment, and consequently on reliability. These effects are not necessarily obvious and straightforward. This article includes a recent contribution to this discussion from ITT Goulds Pumps, and compares it with some previously published work to provide an overall view of some of the factors to be considered.
