الوصف: Developmental positions can be used to strengthen a patient's limbs and trunk. Difficulty arises, however, when an adult patient is too weak to assume these positions. The method presented was used to position a tall, moderately obese male patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome, who had grossly Poor upper extremity muscle strength and Trace to Zero trunk and lower extremity muscle strength when admitted for rehabilitation. Because of the patient's size and lack of strength, three therapists were required to help him assume developmental positions. The method used to achieve easier positioning consisted of modifying a portable pneumatic lift, a lift normally used to transfer patients in a sitting position.* We placed the patient prone on a raised mat table. (A clearance of 9 in under the table was required to accommodate the base of the pneumatic lift.)…
