مستخلص: The article shares the experience of Baton Rouge pediatricians in meeting the health needs of evacuated children in relation to Hurricane Katrina. A year before landfall, in the State Emergency Operations Center, officials from state, federal and volunteer organizations and Louisiana parishes participated in a mock scenario almost identical to the reality of Katrina. Planners used the scenario to develop a recovery plan. A day after Katrina, the number of newborns surged form nursery and obstetric patients who had evacuated or transferred. It was found that there were inadequate supplies for pediatric patients. It should be learned that planning and logistics for potential pediatric mass casualty should include and be designed by pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.
