مستخلص: The article presents a study which assessed blood pressure, heart rate, and urinary catecholamines in overweight or obese subjects with a loss-of-function mutation in the MC4R gene and in equally overweight control subjects. Researchers found the prevalence of hypertension to be markedly lower in the MC4R-deficient subjects than in the control subjects. The genetic and pharmacologic studies showed that melanocortinergic signaling is associated with the control of human blood pressure through a mechanism which is insulin-independent.
