The authors discuss the role of effective tobacco control in the reduction of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). They say that NCDs account for approximately 60% of global deaths, wherein they highlight that tobacco use accounts for a sixth of these deaths. They mention that strong tobacco control programmes are associated with reductions in health-care costs due to rapid effect of control policies on NCDs. Moreover, they are critical on the loss of tobacco tax revenues. |
