مستخلص: The purpose of this study was to assess HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes, and HIV risk behaviors among male and female high-risk adolescents (n = 801) in Hong Kong through a cross-sectional survey. High-risk adolescents were referred as those who were out of school or unemployed, who were members of natural groups or street gangs, or who had poor ties with their families. Findings had revealed that though participants were knowledgeable on the nature and common modes of transmission of HIV/AIDS, they had many misconceptions regarding sexual practices in preventing HIV. The present sample also reported a positive attitude towards AIDS patients and knowledge on HIV/AIDS was a necessary condition for the elimination of prejudice against AIDS patients. Findings had also revealed that sexual risk-taking behaviors such as multiple sex partners, commercial sex engagement, unprotected sex, etc., had made high-risk adolescents more susceptible to HIV infection. A number of psychosocial impediments to safe sex were also identified including perceived invulnerability, peer influence, unavailability of condoms, inadequate sexual communication and negotiation skills. Implications for the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention programs for high-risk adolescents are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
