مستخلص: In this paper we lay the ground work for the study of wave propagation through some helical slow wave structures in which the helices are wound on elliptical cylinders of very small eccentricity. The eccentricity is so small that it is assumed that the circular cylindrical coordinate system may be used. Some interesting results showing the effect of anisotropy on the characteristic dispersion equation are obtained. The standard characteristic equation for the modal index n = 0 for the circular helix as given in text books is retrieved showing that the analysis presented here is reliable. Fast wave helical structures of elliptical shape have been studied earlier by the authors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
