The comprehensive impact of regional traffic has attracted a lot of attention from society. Planning and configuring regional transportation in scientific and reasonable ways will promote local economic development greatly. Based on management perspectives, the paper states the development process of regional transportation route; explains the theoretical and practical meaning of transportation route planning; presents the purpose, principles, content, and methods of transportation route layout planning; and points out the development trend in future research.
