مستخلص: On May 11, 2023, the federal COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) ended after more than 3 years,[1] marking the conclusion of significant federal health care support for states and individuals. The federal government and states can be better prepared for the next crisis, whether economic, public health, or climate, by automating the Medicaid continuous coverage provision as a proactive response. Another example of Medicaid-focused crisis response was a Section 1115 waiver to expand Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program coverage to those affected by the Flint water crisis[29]; however, these expansions were reactive and slowed by political processes.
