Studies on entrepreneurship show the persistency of gender inequality linked to distinct structural conditions that operate to the detriment of women. This paper focuses on young graduates who choose to pursue autonomous career projects. Two profiles stand out: the "traditional" and the "innovative" entrepreneur. The first gathers more women in proximity and care services; the second includes more men in innovative and knowledge-intensive sectors. Results imply the need of a broader discussion about the prerequisites of female economic autonomy. They also suggest that entrepreneurship promotion policies should crucially address gender specificities and their relationship with higher education systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

Os estudos sobre empreendedorismo mostram a persistência de desigualdades de género decorrentes de condições estruturais distintas que operam em desfavor das mulheres. Neste artigo, analisam-se as escolhas de projetos autónomos de carreira de jovens diplomados/as do ensino superior, destacando-se os perfis de "empreendedor tradicional" e "empreendedor inovador". No primeiro, concentram-se mais mulheres em serviços de proximidade e de cuidado e, no segundo, mais homens em setores inovadores e intensivos em conhecimento. Os resultados sugerem a necessidade de uma discussão ampla sobre autonomização económica das mulheres e políticas de promoção do empreendedorismo que atendam às especificidades de género e sua relação com ensino superior.
