الوصف: We used experimental provisioning of food and mark-recapture techniques to test the prediction that food supplementation results in increased philopatry by young-of-the-year Peromyscus maniculatus. Resident mice born to known dams on control and food-supplemented grids had their dispersal distances estimated based on the linear distance between the geometric centres of their mothers’ home ranges and those of their own. Mice whose home ranges overlapped or abutted their mothers’ ranges were considered philopatric; otherwise they were considered dispersed. Compared to control populations, food supplementation did not result in increased philopatry by young-of-the-year mice, perhaps because philopatry was already high on control grids. Food supplementation permitted greater movement of young within their natal range and lead to increased residency of immigrants from surrounding areas.
