مستخلص: The article discusses the history of international health efforts through an analysis of scientific conferences concerning poliomyelitis (commonly polio). Particular emphasis is given to the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other scientific organizations in these conferences and in battling poliomyelitis. More specifically, the authors are concerned with the role of Spanish researchers and public health professionals in these international efforts to combat the disease. To do this, the authors analyze the foreign policy of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco and its effect on Spain's involvement in international health issues.
