مستخلص: The aim of the study was to rest the hypothesis that neural processes underlying temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) also facilitate creativity. This hypothesis was based on evidence that TLE is associated with greater neuronal lability and generates sensory-limbic hyperconnectivity. 150 participants formed 3 groups (TLE group, non-CNS neurological group, nonclinical group) and completed a measure of potential creativity, the polygon figure-preference test. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed age and gender to be significant predictors of preference for complexity but clinical status was nonsignificant, suggesting that TLE was not associated with creativity in this sample. It is possible that certain properties of TLE exert a positive effect on creativity, although others exert a negative effect. Alternatively, the measure of creativity employed may not be suited to the nature of creativity presumed to be facilitated in individuals with TLE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
