The article focuses on the gene variants and structural ageing of the brain with the prevalence of age-related diseases to identify biomarkers able to predict the morphology of certain brain structures. Topics discussed include population of gene variants associated both with structural cerebral ageing and an enhanced risk of dementia, atrophy of the hippocampus was a recognized biological marker for Alzheimer's disease and high-throughput sequencing and genotyping methods. |
