The article reports on a study in the U.S. on a mouse model of myotonic dystrophy, the most common adult muscular dystrophy. Researchers created a mouse carrying an extra copy of the DMPK gene that could be turned on and off by adding or removing an antibiotic to the drinking water. When DMPK was turned off, almost all skeletal problems were reversed, and in many of the mice, heart defects also reversed. |
