مستخلص: The article reports on polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides in human milk from the locality Prague, Czech Republic. Although the use of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) was restricted many years ago, they still remain widely distributed in the environment. Exposure of humans to these hazardous chemicals occurs mainly due to consumption of contaminated diet. In European diet, foods of animal origin, mainly fish and seafood may represent the potential source of persistent organochlorine contaminants. The article compares the levels of PCBs and OCPs in human milk collected in Prague region in the year 2000 with similar studies conducted recently abroad.
