مستخلص: This article, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, discusses the challenges and potential solutions for addressing cutaneous neurofibromas (cNFs) in individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). cNFs are skin tumors that affect the majority of people with NF1, but they are understudied and poorly understood. The article highlights the high variability in clinical expression of cNFs and the influence of genetic modifiers outside the NF1 locus on tumorigenesis. The authors present the results of a genome-wide association analysis, identifying a potential susceptibility locus for plexiform neurofibromas (pNFs). While further investigations are needed to confirm these findings, this study represents an important step towards personalized therapies for NF1-associated neurofibromas.
