مستخلص: |
This article focuses on a study which examined the learning ability of bumble-bee colonies in a free-flying paradigm. A number of bumble-bee colonies were obtained from Koopert Biological Systems in Netherlands. These bees were pre-trained to forage from several bicoloured, artificial flowers in a flight arena. The learning curve of each bee refers to the proportion of errors made before the bee first probed a rewarding flower. A zone of inhibition (ZOI) assay was used to test the immune response of the bees. Results showed that there was a significant difference between colonies in their immune response. According to the study, there is a positive relationship between a colony's ability to learn and the strength of its immune response. |
