Whilst studies have frequently examined mainstream culture's stereotypes about minorities, the study of minority group's stereotypic views of themselves has been less frequently considered. In our culture gender is an important differentiator between people. It is hypothesised that its importance is carried into same sex relationships, with a similar pejorative association between the crossing of gender-inappropriate boundaries evident. The results of a study of the nature and degree of stereotyping by gays of gays will be explored using the Stereotype/Identity Repgrid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
