The article discusses the need of fire management strategies to vary between ecosystems to maintain the biodiversity of species, based on findings of a study conducted across the Mallee region in Australia. It explains the ecological role of fire in ecosystems and the use of patch-mosaic burning approach to fire ecology. It describes the ecological conditions in the Murray-Mallee region and the Mallee Fire and Biodiversity Project. The link between fire histories and biodiversity is discussed. |
