مستخلص: Buckling or structural instability is a common failure in mechanical, aerospace and civil structures under compressive loads. Any aerospace or mechanical structure subjected to axial compressive load is assumed as column. Therefore, excellent knowledge on buckling behaviour of columns is necessary as an airframe is constructed of long slender plates and stiffeners, of which half will experience a compressive load leading structure instability if overloaded. The present study estimates the failure load of columns under axial compression. Experiments were conducted on columns to study the influence of end conditions, length, thickness and material on critical buckling load. Analytically, Euler's column theory is used to estimate the critical buckling load of the column specimens. Moreover, eigen buckling analysis was performed using ansys software to determine the first positive buckling mode and corresponding critical load. The test results are found good in agreement with numerical (FEA) and analytical results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
