مستخلص: Drawing on liability of foreignness, cognitive structures, and the dynamics of alignment, we propose that foreign firm survivability is not necessarily affected by the lack of familiarity within a host market, but rather by the misalignment between its cognitive structure and its host country industry's level of global/local connectivity. Our study illustrates that foreignness and localness can each be either a liability or an asset, depending on firm characteristics and host-market industry conditions. Besides aiming to reduce misalignment effects at the country level, practitioners must strategize firm alignment to the host country's industry environment as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
