Claim: I claim
Claim: 1. In a method for controlling the heat load of a plant fed with natural gas by adjusting the volumetric through put of the feed gas in the main line connected to the plant relative to its caloric content
Claim: withdrawing a small portion of the natural gas from the main line
Claim: combining air with the withdrawn gas in an amount such that the air/gas ratio will insure that there will be no unburnt products in the withdrawn gas after being burnt
Claim: feeding the withdrawn natural gas-air mixture into a combustion chamber separate from the plant and burning the natural gas-air mixture in the chamber
Claim: withdrawing the combustion products from the chamber
Claim: measuring the oxygen content of the combustion products to determine the Wobbe index of the natural gas to provide a measure of the caloric content of the natural gas, and
Claim: varying the volumetric through put of the natural gas in the main line downstream from where it was withdrawn in response to said determination to maintain the caloric content of the natural gas and thereby maintain the heat load in the plant at a set value.
Claim: 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the natural gas can be manufactured gas containing up to 10% of hydrogen by volume.
