Urban centres constantly face moments of disruption, which inevitably impact inhabitants’ lives. Although there are many transportation infrastructures inside cities, the vast majority contemplates only the private automobile. To change this situation, the concept of experimentation in public spaces has emerged. In this paper, we make a comparative analysis with the focus on understanding their motivation, materials, approach, date of the initial intervention, benefits and contributions. We chose three case studies to support it, two in Southern Europe – Piazze Aperteand Supermanzanas- and one case study in Latin America – Parking Days. Results show similarities in motivation, materials used, and the importance of citizens during the process. Differences are related to the stakeholders that initiated the interventions, and the perception of the legitimacy of the actions. |
