| الوصف: | Research has shown that TLE seizures affect memory functions, language abilities, and other cognitive abilities (Hermann, Seidenberg, Schoenfeld, and Davies, 1997; Schefft, Testa, Dulay, Privitera, and Yeh, 2003; Hermann, Wyler, Richey, and Rea, 1987). Research has been mixed regarding working memory and executive function deficits in TLE (Thompson and Duncan, 2005; Abrahams et al., 1999; Cowey and Green, 1996). Few studies to date have addressed the impact of seizure duration and lifetime seizure load on higher cognitive functions. The aim of this study was to assess whether seizure duration and lifetime seizure load were associated with deficits in higher cognitive functions in a sample of individuals with TLE (N = 213) and PNES (N = 216). The results suggest that earlier age at onset of seizures and lifetime seizure frequency does negatively affect higher cognitive functioning in both the TLE and PNES group, but differently within each group. |
