مستخلص: The article focuses on developments in criterion-referenced measurement (CRT), an alternative to the traditional norm-referenced test (NRT). The CRT is used to identify an individual's status with respect to a previously established standard or performance. On the other hand, NRT requires that an individual's performance must be identified with respect to the performance of others on the same test. An overview of research, speculation and developmental work into the nature and consequences of CRT is presented. The authors contend that additional groundwork is necessary to establish a framework for CRT in the classroom on a daily basis.
