مستخلص: The purpose of this article is to show, through analogy, how sound basic organization of the modern corporation can, like an army's, act as a superb intelligence gathering instrument, and to demonstrate how, merely by paying attention to information readily available but frequently ignored, the corporation can react positively to issue confrontation. The commander of an army is responsible for everything that affects his troops and his cause. The corporate commander, the CEO, operates through an almost identical chain of command as the army. He has his headquarters staff with whom he consults and whose advice he sometimes takes in making the final grand plans and strategy for the conduct of the war in the marketplace. Orders approved and issued by the CEO go out to his corps commanders, the heads of major corporate divisions who, in consultation with their own staffs, are responsible for implementing the CEO's orders in the particular. The problem is, of course, how to transform a pyramidal organization, used to dealing with a downward flow of instructions and an upward flow of sales reports, cost analyses and production records, into a sensitive intelligence gathering instrument capable of accepting, analyzing and acting upon social and societal information generated anywhere in it structure.
