The article focuses on the engineering and design implications of propagation conditions in dictating the choice of frequencies, modulation techniques, coding schemes, antenna strategy and design and power levels for portable communication devices. Evidently, different short-range wireless devices use different parts of the spectrum, and in the microwave range, the Industrial, Scientific and Medical bands are widely used. At microwave frequencies, atmospheric considerations are a major source of propagation losses which greatly contribute to design considerations. |
