مصطلحات موضوعية: *LISTERIOSIS, *BACTERIAL diseases, *FOOD poisoning, *FOODBORNE diseases
مستخلص: The author discusses the fact that Listeria monocytogenes can be a dangerous food-borne pathogen. Despite the variety of clinical presentations, listeria infection has not previously been recognized as a primary gastrointestinal illness, and little has been known about the mode of transmission of this increasingly common infection. "An outbreak of gastroenteritis and fever due to Listeria monocytogenes in milk," by Dalton et al. in this issue discusses the disease. The outbreaks are related to problems with the pasteurizing of milk products.
