الوصف: The impact of climate change on marine organisms is a highly complex issue. In this thesis, I attempted to contribute to the current scientific discourse regarding the influence of climate change on marine biodiversity, aiming to enhance predictions and assessments made for various organisms by considering their ecological and behavioural characteristics, life cycle and habitats they use. Initially, potential changes on the suitability of marine habitats for sea turtles due to increased sea surface temperatures were identified for various lifecycle stages. Results from climate suitability model indicated geographical and topographical variations, with a future potential expansion of suitable areas in the western Mediterranean for adults, while the extent of suitable areas for immature individuals remained relatively stable. As sea turtles use the whole water column, thermally suitable areas were identified across different bathymetric layers, including near-surface, deeper and water-column three-dimensional habitats. Predictions for each life stage and depth range varied, with a mixed pattern of changes for juveniles and a more consistent pattern for adults, highlighting the necessity of incorporating the three-dimensional nature of marine species habitats. Subsequently, the scope of the study was expanded from a single species to a broader group of Mediterranean species, attempting a risk assessment in face of climate change for threatened marine fauna based on the IUCN Red List. By combining data on species vulnerability and exposure to climate change, the analysis identified a significant number of marine species at high risk, from various taxonomic groups, as well as areas with increased presence of species at high climate risk throughout the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, using fundamental species functional traits related to life history, growth, and reproduction, potential changes in the functional composition of ichthyofauna of the shallow waters of the Northeastern Mediterranean were investigated.
